Two major entertainment bodies in the greater Alur region—Greater Alur Music Association (GRAMA) and Alur Entertainers Association (AEA)—have officially merged efforts to operate under one umbrella in a bid to meet membership requirements of the Uganda Musicians Federation (UMF).

The decision was reached during a joint meeting held at GAF Apartments in Nebbi Municipality, attended by artistes from Nebbi, Zombo, and Pakwach districts.

GRAMA President Mercy Leko announced the association is now open to all individuals working in the entertainment industry, not only musicians. “You may not be a musician, but you might run another department—you’re free to register,” she said, emphasizing the importance of strength in numbers.

AEA Chairperson Raster Longe explained that the unification followed a dinner meeting between about 30 entertainers and UMF President Eddy Kenzo in Nebbi. Longe noted that the alliance aims to unify Alur entertainers for better access to government programs.

Longe further disclosed that Kenzo pledged Shs10 million in support once the association meets the required membership threshold. The funds are expected to help set up an office, build a modern studio, and hire experienced producers to mentor local talent.

Despite optimism, some members expressed reservations. Brayo Jamusia voiced concerns over past mismanagement of funds, humorously stating, “Such associations have eaten my money over three times... I’m first testing if the water is warm, asking the leadership to nicely convince other entertainers ”

Producer AG Monique, inactive in such groups for over a decade, cited corruption as the main reason for his reluctance but noted he might join if the association demonstrates clear vision and transparency, "let's light the candle" he says.

Meanwhile, long-time promoter in Nebbi municipality known as, 'Promoter Addicted' publicly registered as the 28th member on the spot, paying the required Shs50,000 and expressing full support for the renewed cause.

Kibula, the former spokesperson of AEA, appealed to GRAMA leadership to consider allowing interested individuals to pay their membership fees in installments where possible.

Nebbi District MP Isaac Otimgiu, who made a brief appearance at the meeting, admitted that leaders have previously overlooked Alur entertainers. He pledged his full support going forward, citing the formation of a unified association as a promising development for the industry.
