Many people have been pinning the Gulu based record label-Pine Avenue 5 to the group of artists who just buy their way to get nominated and win awards.
But it was a whole different story last Saturday, during the Hipipo Music Awards at Kampala Serena Hotel, the team made their first loss in awards winnings.
For the record, you should all know that Pine Avenue 5 was awarded the best music group in Uganda in 2017 by Hipipo Music Awards, beating music groups like the Radio & Weasel , B2C , Voltage Music, and other big names in the Ugandan music industry. ...In short, they are regarded as the smartest team when it comes to winning awards and nominations.
So, some critics have labeled them a group that pays big money as bribes to award organizers to win awards since their CEO - Rich Okoth who lives in the UK has enough money to buy their way through.
However last Saturday like we said, the team lost the category they always win and have won for a long time more than any other artists in the Northern Region, that is the Best Northern Song Of the year.
The little known Adong, a female artist won the category with her song Yata...this gave Pine Avenue 5 enough gas to push some sense into their critics.
Pine boys came out and congratulated Adong for the win, and made the statement straight below...............
