Today morning, Arua woke up to an unusual uproar On Social Media after a Section of the users within Arua & it's Sorrounding utilized the Platform to express their Anger & Frustration over the Deforestation activities that took place yesterday as Part of the Ongoing Construction of Arua Hill Stadium & Business Park Construction by Development Infrastructure.

According to Eng Aita; As a Person who treasures Nature, He understands the frustrations taking place but Before any Construction takes Place, Environmental Social Impact Assessment is always carried which gives Both Positive & Negative impacts of a Project in an area.

"I Fully Understand the frustrations with what has happened. As part of design, I treasure nature, so you should see the frustration I always have when a tree has to go down. Unfortunately as part of Infrastructure development, you can't avoid. So what do we normally do? Before any construction starts, we carry out what we call ESIA- Environmental Social Impact Assessment. This gives both Negative and Positive Impacts of a project to environment and society. The Positive impacts are desired Impacts of a project. The Negative Impacts are impacts which are not desired but will always be there e.g Noise, Pollution, Vegetation Destructions etc.. Then we come up with what we call Mitigation Measures to cancel the Negative Impacts. So what is in our plan for the negative impact? We started by Raising a Seedling Bed in there where we are raising One Million Seedlings which are given for free to be planted within the City. Rotary Arua has so far Received Numerous trees which have been planted. Secondly we are Planting over 170 already Grown up trees to replace the 7 which are Being Cut. As you may have noticed, these cut trees had badly grown and have not given the beauty needed. So at the end we shall have 1 million trees planted. When you Passby the stadium you are able to see seedlings and we actually encourage everyone to pick some and plant. Development will always move with Destructions, but the Destruction Impact must be mitigated. That's what happens in all Infrastructure projects. So as you can see, we have lost 7 trees, we planting more than 170 of same and we are raising 1 million seedlings. So to me Interms of benefit, it's too massive. We shall have over 7 Species of trees among the 1 Million Seedlings we are raising. As I stated before please organise a team, we give you 200 seedlings plant them in the city. To me thats what makes more sense as far as enviroment is concerned." Engineer Jaffar Aita Joel Explained.
