At least 27 Alur artistes have participated in the first edition of the NBL Dance Hall Challenge, a music project bringing different artistes together on a single beat to showcase their talents and strengthen collaboration within the music industry.
The challenge, initiated by music producer Kaga Boy, is also aimed at creating opportunities for artistes to connect and promote their music beyond the West Nile region.
Kaga Boy says the project has already helped artistes who rarely meet to work together and share ideas.
The first edition will be crowned with an awards and certificate-giving event, where outstanding performers will be recognized under six categories including Best Male Artiste, Best Female Artiste, Best Rapper and Best Vocalist, among others.
A panel of about six judges will evaluate the participating songs based on the categories and different performance aspects.
Kaga Boy says the challenge is also intended to expose Alur artistes to audiences beyond the region by bringing together musicians from different parts of Uganda, adding that the next edition is expected to expand the concept by involving producers working on the same beat, with artistes competing across different categories.
The artistes who participated in the first edition include Feela Boy, LB Jivan, Newz Kally, Ashly Dee, Smart Eddie, Rolling Snake, Lito Kid, Small Rapper, BadBoy Mray, Dayi West, Frenzy Boi, Captain Paul, Willy Kybe, Brian King, Maxi Dee, Neng Boy, King Remy, Genius Brown, Thotho Felix, Vanakino, Smile Comedy, Emma Legacy, Ston Boi, BLEIR, Asa Christ, Good Light Crew and Swit Lala.
